When it was originally published in 1905 it was a totally unique work in the domestic social and political thought and explores the history of the monarchical principle. Even opponents of the monarchy, called him "the best justification for the idea of an autocratic monarchy.
Lev Alexandrovich Tikhomirov (1852-1923), was originally a Russian revolutionary and one of the members of the Executive Committee of the Narodnaya Volya, following his disenchantment with violent revolution he became one of the leading conservative thinkers in Russia. He authored several books on monarchism, Orthodoxy, and Russian political philosophy. Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, he worked as a school secretary in Sergiev Posad. anddied on October 10, 1923.
