The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.

Fine antique watercolour by Lady Natasha Gourlay (1921-2018), of a pipe, matches and ashtray, signed and dated "N. Zinovieff March 21st" in the lower right hand corner.

Her mother was Princess Elizabeth Dmitrievna Galitzine (1892-1982) and her father was Dmitri Alexandrovich Zinovieff (1887-1963), she married General Sir Ian Gourlay who fought in the Adriatic and Italy at the end of the Second World War; pioneered the use of helicopters to land troops from aircraft carriers; and ended his career as Commandant-General of the Royal Marines.
