Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel 'beautiful', meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Fine antique handwritten note on an envelope dated 1908 signed "ER' by King Edward VII, addressed to his accountant on the Board of Green Cloth at Buckingham Palace. Someone had apparently sent the King a hamper of game to the Palace and then had the audacity to send in a bill for it direct to the King! The envelope is accompanied by a signed note from Lee Croft whose father was the accountant Major Benjamin Croft of the Artists' Rifles Brigade confirming the story.
