Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel 'beautiful', meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Very fine antique and rare set of complete works in six volumes by Jean-François Regnard (1655-1709), the most distinguished, after Moliere, of the comic poets of the seventeenth century - a dramatist, born in Paris. The books come from the collection of King Louis-Philippe of France (1773-1850), with his cypher 'LP' surmounted by a crown on the front cover of each book, beautiful period binding in full calfskin with title labels in black and gold. Published in Paris by L. Tenre in 1820.
