The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Fine antique Menu embossed in gold with 'D' for the Debutantes Ball held at the Dorchester Hotel dated 16th May 1934, accompanying this is a signed letter from Mrs Margaret Gordon-Moore nee Barker Ogden Chairperson of the Ball, spiritualist author and wife of Dr Charles Gordon Moore, Physician in Ordinary to Princess Beatrice from 1928 to 1944. The letter asks the recipient Mrs Bland if her daughter who is attending would be happy with a selected number of Debutantes did a charming little dance before him (Prince George Duke of Kent) after dinner - a graceful dance such as a pavane.." Accompanying these is the original programme for the Ball with a drawing on the front cover by EH Shepard who write Winnie the Pooh (disbound)
