Rare set of three royal menus for banquets held in honour of the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to France dated 21st July 1938. Thefirst menu (pink) is for lunch at Versailles with President Édouard Daladier held at the Palace of Versasilles. The second menu (grey) is for dinner at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, this is accompanied by a large and unique Souvenir Menu given on the evening by the French Champagne House Pommery & Greno, embossed in gold and with portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Against the backdrop of threatening war in Europe, an official visit In France was organized for the King and Queen. The explicit aim of the trip was to strengthen Anglo-French relations prior to the run up of World War II. The visit was framed by the memorization of the Great War with many other events, the most impressive being a large military revue at Versailles, the theme of which was "War and Culture".
