Fine antique signed letter in French from Pierre-Jean de Beranger (1780-1857), embossed with his initials surmounted by a coronet, dated Paris 30th September 1839, with address panel postal markings and red wax seals to Paulin Paris (1800-1881). Beranger writes about the political and literary manoeuvres surrounding the Academie election. He discusses factional intrigue, the postponement of the vote, and the strategic balance of forces, naming several prominent figures including Quatremere de Quincy, Lebas, Langlois, and others providing first hand insight into the workings of the Academie during the July Monarchy. Beranger was the most celebrated poet of 19th century France and made him a major cultural and political figure under the Restoration and July Monarchy. Paulin Paris was a medievalist and scholar, later a member of the Institut.
