Fine antique signed document from King George III dated 16th February 1770 appointing Richard Chichley Plowden Fort Adjutant (1743-1830), to "Our Garrison in Our Island of Dominica in America", countersigned by Wills Hills, 1st Marquess of Downshire known as Lord Hillsborough (1719-1790), he served as Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1768 to 1772. Plowden later became a Director of the East India Company. Dominica became a British possession in 1763 as part of the Treaty of Paris that ended the Seven Years War.
