Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel ‘beautiful’, meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Fine antique Concert Programme performed by the Coldstream Guards at St George's Hall in Windsor whilst Tsarevich Alexander later Tsar Alexander III dined with Queen Victoria, beautifully embossed at the header with the badge of the Guards. The menu is undated but is 14th May 1874. He came to attend the wedding of Prince Alfred to Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna. In British ceremonial protocol, the playing of a foreign national anthem in this case the Russian national anthem, alongside God Save the Queen was strictly reserved for foreign monarchs or heirs. Provenance - Amelia Louisa Hudson daughter of John R. Hudson who was Footman to the Prince Consort in 1850s up until the Prince's death in 1861. Amelia and other members of the Hudson family appear to have been minor members of the Royal Household.
