Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel ‘beautiful’, meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Fine antique Menu and Programme for a Dinner and Concert hosted by Prince Charles and Princess Diana at Buckingham Palace dated 22nd October 1992, for the 80th Birthday of Sir George Solti (1912-1997), a Hungarian-British orchestral and operatic conductor. Accompanying this menu and programme are the original Royal Household notes (20 pages) detailing the evening including the guest list and seating plan. The Prince and Princess of Wales hosted a table, as did King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of the Hellenes, Princess Margaret, Prince Edward, Princess Alexandra, Duke and Duchess of Kent, Princess Anne and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent all of who were present at this prestigious affair.
