Greek gold diadem with gemstones - 6th-4th century BC

A sheet gold and gemstone diadem comprising a narrow gold fillet with ten sheet-gold pendant plaques attached, each formed as a spray of three leaves; the central element a large cabochon setting for a red gemstone flanked by two small translucent orange stones in similar mounts; a hook-and-eye closure at the fillet's ends; mounted on a custom-made display board. 550 grams total, 55cm including stand; diadem: 25 grams, 45.5cm (21 1/2"; diadem: 18"). Very fine condition.

Ex Manton collection, Birmingham, UK; acquired on the London art market in 2012; formerly in the collection of a Suffolk gentleman; previously with Gorny & Mosch, Munich, Germany.
