Exceptionally rare Government Proclamation Oath given by Tsar Nicholas II
(1868-1918), regarding the succession of the imperial throne to Grand Duke George Alexandrovich (1871-1899), third son of Tsar Alexander III. When the Tsar died in 1894 and Nicholas became Tsar, and as he had no children, Grand Duke George took on the role of Tsarevich until his own death in 1899.
"OATH PROMISE
I, named below, promise and swear by the Almighty God, before His Holy Gospel, that I want and owe to HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, his true and MOST GRACIOUS GREAT RULER, EMPEROR NIKOLAI ALEXANDROVICH, the sole ruler of all Russia, and the legitimate IMPERIAL MAJESTY, the successor to the throne of all Russia His Imperial Highness, the Crown Prince and Grand Duke GEORGE ALEXANDROVICH, faithfully and impartially serve and obey everything, not сounting the cost, to the last drop of blood, and all to the high of HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, sole ruler, power and authority belonged rights and advantages, legitimised, according to the exceptional understanding, strength and ability to warn and defend, and at least try to facilitate everything, that may concern HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY by loyal service and benefits of the state; about the damage of HIS MAJESTY interest, harm and loss, as soon as I notice that, not only will I declare it in good time, but also try to avert it and not allow it, and any entrusted secret I will keep firmly, and the rank placed on me, both in this (general) and in a special, determined and from time to time of HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY name, from the appointed superiors, the determined instructions, regulations and orders, prescribed to me by my superiors to correct in a proper manner, and for myself-interest, friendship and enmity is contrary to the position, and thus behave and act as loyal to HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, and as I am before God and his Last Judgment I can always give an answer; may the Lord God help me spiritually and physically. Amen."
