Fine antique Japanese cast bronze incense burner in the form of a seated shishi (guardian lion), the hollow body forming the incense chamber, late Meiji period. The lion with open mount and fang (one missing) and finely chased, flowing mane like clouds, the body decorated with stylised floral scrolls terminating in a curled tail. The underside bears a cast seal mark, probably that of the artist or workshop
