We believe in offering clients items that are unique and rare for aficionados of the antique and collector's world. Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel ‘beautiful’, meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.

Fine antique printed notice pasted onto a sheet of paper issued by the Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez addressed to shareholders announcing a call of 100 francs per share, payable between 1-15 July, and referring to ongoing works and contracts required for the completion of the canal and sea jetties by the end of 1867. Printed at the company's Paris headquarters, 12 Place Vendome with printed Secretary General P. Merreau.

Underneath the printed notice is a contemporary manuscript publication instructions in a clerical hand, and signed at foot "F. de Lesseps" in a characteristic abbreviated form for Ferdinand de Lesseps (1805-1894) French scholar and diplomat and developer of the Suez Canal:

"Extract de tour les journaux de France et de l'Europe"
"F de Lesseps"

Indicating this example was prepared for press circulation across France and Europe.
