Fine antique signed letter from Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna (1882-1960), dated Hotel Massenet, Paris, 26th June 1935 addressed to her beloved former tutor Ferdinand Thormeyer (1858-1944), known as Siocha, discussing her trip to Paris with her husband who is unwell and visiting doctors. She thanks him for his postcard but "I do not like pictures of olden times such as the one on the card - they are not my taste. Paris is hot! My husband goes to his doctor for his injections...Poor N.A. [her husband] is sick to death of all this, becomes nervous and keeps saying" "I shall only be happy and at peace when the gates of Paris are behind us." She goes on that her great niece daughter of Prince Felix Yusupov will come visit for two weeks. The boys' are convinced their examinations are going well. "We hope to leave here on Saturday morning. The two girls [Irene and her friend] will follow by train with General Foguel...I have seen Apraxin. She is 83 or 84 and this year she is wonderfully well-she even returned our visit! I saw Betsy Shuvalova yesterday...We want to see the Jardin d'Acclimation...it really reminded me of Villefrance Zarnitsa, and that whole Easter stay in 1896..." Accompanied by its original envelope retaining its postage stamp which Thormeyer usually removed to add to his collection.
