Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel ‘beautiful’, meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Rare silver gelatine photo of Prince Felix Yusupov (1887-1967), famous for participating in the murder of Rasputin. The image shows the prince in exile, posed seated before a richly textured backdrop and dressed in a theatrical robe evoking the vestments of a Renaissance cardinal. This image belongs to a small series of stylised portraits created with Morgan during his later life. The phot is signed in the lower left hand corner by the photographer Morgan Biarritz (Jean-Marie Bidault). Provenance: Prince and Princess Felix Yusupov
