Fine antique Cabinet photograph by Mackintosh & Co of Kelso of Frances Anne Spencer Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough (1822-1899), grandmother of Sir Winston Churchill, awarded Royal Order of Victoria and Albert for her efforts at famine relief in Ireland. Provenance: from the collection of Lady Sarah Wilson nee Spencer-Churchill (1865-1929), she was born at Blenheim Palace and was the youngest daughter of the 7th Duke of Marlborough. She became one of the first female war correspondents covering the Siege of Mafeking during the Boer War
