Fine antique signed letter dated 20th June 1940 during World War II from Mary, Princess Royal Countess of Harewood (1897-1965), only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, addressed to her son Gerald, signed "Mummy", written on stationery embossed with 'M' surmounted by a crown for Harewood House, discussing War Savings certificates purchased for him and describing an air raid at 12.30 at night when Prince George Duke of Kent was staying with them"We all went to the cellar and stayed there till about 2.15 and heard distant explosions", also wanting to know if he could take leave if either she or his father were in London. From the collection of Gerald David Lascelles (1924-1998) and Angela Lascelles (1919-2007), first wife of the Honourable Gerald Lascelles second son of the 6th Earl of Harewood and his wife the Princess Royal - despite divorcing she remained very close to Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family.
