Fine antique signed letter dated 20th June 1941 from Mary, Princess Royal Countess of Harewood (1897-1965), only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, addressed to her son Gerald, signed "Mummy", written on stationery embossed with 'M' surmounted by a crown for Chesterfield House but crossed out for Harewood, discussing how interesting it must have been to visit the Hawker factory, her movements between depots "visiting First Aid Posts..seeing salvage in Bath...inspecting the...training wing at Pontefract...seeing salvage of uniforms of all sorts, sacks, shirts etc...and then a 'shoddy mill' where old garments are torn up to be used as wool. Visited a depot for new uniforms etc...and lastly Messrs Taylor's Mills at Batley where materials for the Services are made as well as fancy stuff for export" accompanied by tis original envelope addressed to Gerald at Eton College. From the collection of Gerald David Lascelles (1924-1998) and Angela Lascelles (1919-2007), first wife of the Honourable Gerald Lascelles second son of the 6th Earl of Harewood and his wife the Princess Royal - despite divorcing she remained very close to Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family.
