Bibelot is a late nineteenth century word derived from the French word bel ‘beautiful’, meaning a small item of beauty, curiosity or interest. The word ephemera is derived from the sixteenth century Greek word ephmera meaning a printed or hand written paper not meant to be retained for a long period of time.
Fine antique collection of nine large format cabinet cards by Voigt bound in a red leather folder embossed with 'Homburg 1888' on the cover and show of one of the British royal family holidays to Homburg in Germany. In 1888, the "Homburg Royal Party" was defined by the presence of British and German royalty in the Hessian spa town of Bad Homburg, which was a favourite summer resort for European royalty, particularly Edward VII (then Prince of Wales). He frequently visited Bad Homburg in the 1880s to take the waters, socialise, and entertain, often accompanied by a group of close associates, including members of the Fitzgeorge family and Sir Reuben Sassoon. A remarkable collection of photos which are quite unique showing the informal setting of the royals on holiday, playing wheelbarrow races and donkey rides. Each photo is printed at the foot with the Prince of Wales Feathers.
