Fine antique signed letter from Vicomte Francois Louis Leon de Janze (1848-1910), addressed to the Winslow's regarding an invitation to the theatricals, but due to a "charming friend" staying, she had been dragged off to the Golf Club by the Stierstorffs and he feels obliged to remain go with her. Written on his personal stationery embossed with nautical flags dated 21st February 1894 from Beaulieu-sur-Mer. He was a French politician and influential sports organiser. He created one of France's first tennis courts in 1885 and was a founding member of the French Olympic Committee and directed the Olympic tennis tournament in 1900. Beaulieu was a winter haven for high society.

From the collection of Richard and Mary Winslow, English/American aristocrats who owned  the Villa Winslow in Cannes during the 1890s and were friends with aristocrats and royals from all over the world. Mary was a great beauty and had by family tradition once been a mistress of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
